Appalshop Flood Support

On July 28, 2022, the waters of a catastrophic flood breached a fellow regional archive, Appalshop, in eastern Kentucky. Their warehouse and vault held paper records, film, video, audio, and photographs representing a century of central Appalachian history. Eighty percent of their film reels, video tapes, and audio tapes were affected by the floodwaters and … Continue reading Appalshop Flood Support

New Year, New Name

Happy 2015 to all! With a new year freshly afoot, we here at MarMIA have decided to expand our geographic focus from the state of Maryland to the Middle Atlantic region of the United States of America. While this leaves less specific boundaries for our concentration, it is also more inclusive in scope (and square acreage). The moving image … Continue reading New Year, New Name

All we want for Christmas is for Santa to explain this video to us! The @wjztv tape just says this is from December 1987 and is described as "Santa in Lapland". Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region, so we are pretty sure this is rare archival footage of Santa and friends chillin at the North Pole. Happy holidays from the MARMIA Team!
MARMIA founder @siobhan_cernugelj wearing the U=MARMIA tee! Lots of other colors available and a crew neck sweater (link in bio)—buying one (or 3!) supports our nonprofit mission to preserve Mid-Atlantic history.
Amazing week at #AMIA22! If you couldn't make it to Archival Screening Night last night, this was our submission! Shot by @wjztv staff Bill Spicer and starring Wiley Daniels, these are some wonderful holiday and AV-themed promos.
U get a cool t-shirt, MARMIA gets some $ to digitize more U-matic tapes! Win-win! U=MARMIA 🖤💛🧡❤️ bonfire.com/umarmia
Very excited for next weekend!
Today we are grateful for our AV Archivist @joanananananananana digitizing this 1986 episode of @wjztv ‘s “City Line" called "Cooking with Jonathan Edges" w/ Thanksgiving leftover ideas (thanks to funding from @clirhc)! Jonathan Edges was one of Baltimore's premiere chefs who regularly cooked for celebrities and would volunteer his services to community organizations. This clip shows Jonathan's final products of turning holiday leftovers into a wonderful post-holiday feast: leftover dressing used in stuffed red snapper, leftover gravy into celery chowder, and the turkey into BBQ. We hope you enjoy, get some ideas for your leftovers, and have a fantastic Thanksgiving!
