These were just a small portion of the total 37 pallets of WJZ-TV audiovisual materials that MARMIA moved from UB on Friday.

We have great news: we were able to complete the physical move of the WJZ-TV Collection from the University of Baltimore’s Langsdale Library to MARMIA’s storage facility! It took a crew of six on our end, several of the University of Baltimore’s staff, two trips in a 26 foot truck, and about 12 hours on Friday, June 16. Check out more photos of the move in our Facebook album. The move took a lot of hard work and a lot of money. Please donate to our crowdfunding campaign today to help pay it off. Once we reach our goal we can quickly begin our focus on the digitization of the WJZ-TV Collection!

During the move, we found a box of original VHS tapes of the WJZ-produced video tribute, “Remembering Al Sanders”. Al was a cherished WJZ reporter and anchorman who died on May 5, 1995. MARMIA is keeping a few tapes for our collection, and would like to offer the rest as thank you gifts for the “Remembering Al Sanders” donation level ($60). With each donation, we are closer to preserving Al’s work and sharing his legacy with future generations.

From the VHS cover: “Al Sanders came to work in the Eyewitness Newsroom at WJZ-TV in the fall of 1972. For twenty-three years he reported stories about the people of Maryland…We put together this videotape as a tribute to him, to honor the journalist and, more importantly, to celebrate the man. There was only one Al Sanders.”
