In this brand new year of 2016, I would like to introduce you to the founding members of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive’s Board:

  • Natalie Cadranel: While not geographically local, Natalie brings 15-years of experience in capacities ranging from technology, development, and operations strategist to strategic partnerships for national and international nonprofit organizations focusing on advancing human rights. She obtained her Masters in Information Management and Systems from UC Berkeley and is  founder and director of OpenArchive and Foundscapes.
  • Jennifer Ferretti has her background in fine art photography and a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute. She is currently the Digital Initiatives Librarian at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and has over eight years of experience working in libraries, museums, and archives. Jenny is a Maryland native and has started the local BLAM (Baltimore Libraries, Archives, and Museums) Collective.
  • Eva Grizzard is a native Baltimorean with a background in fine art and is currently the Preservation Specialist at the Northeast Document Conservation Center. Before her current position, she worked at the Rockefeller Archive Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY for five years, and obtained her undergraduate and MLIS+Archival Studies certificate in New York City.
  • Taylor McBride is a Video and Digital Preservation Specialist for the Smithsonian Institution’s DAMS, an active Co-Chair of the Association of Moving Image Archivists’ Small Gauge and Amateur Film Committee, and a 2012 graduate of NYU’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program. Taylor also has worked in various other archives within the Smithsonian, including the Anacostia Community Museum Archives and the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections.
  • John Pettit is a multi-media artist and a native of Philadelphia. He holds an MA in Public History and is the Assistant Archivist at Temple University Libraries’ Urban Archives. John is also a member of the video collective, Termite TV, and a musician that plays in projects including the band Callowhill and the ‘Ruins of Friendship Orchestra’ as part of the ‘Pine Barrens’ evolving documentary film project.
  • Margaret Rorison is a curator and filmmaker from Baltimore, Maryland. She works with language, sound, and imagery to create installations, films, and live 16mm projections. She holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and is the co-founder and curator for the experimental film series, Sight Unseen.
  • Steven Villereal is a 2009 NYU MIAP graduate and is the Audiovisual Conservator in the Preservation Services department at the University of Virginia Library, where he oversees the reformatting of legacy media materials as well as consulting on the preservation and curation of born-digital production projects.
I am so excited to work with this talented group and to get MARMIA up-and-running as an official non-profit, collecting archive. Thank you to the newly established board and to all of our supporters–here’s to a great 2016!
